Last Five Years, The - April 5, 2002 - Off-Broadway Sherie Rene Scott, Norbert Leo Butz. Notes: Talented singing and memorable music. Sherie and Norbert shine with challenging material. Well shot with lots of close-ups.
Last Five Years. The – May 24, 2014 / Limited Trade Katie Rose Clarke (Cathy), Adam Halpin (Jamie). Notes: A near perfect capture, shot fairly close to the stage so the picture is extra clear and steady with no washout whatsoever. There are a couple heads that can be seen at the bottom of the screen occasionally, but they never block the action. There are a couple very quick dropouts in the first three minutes. The sound is excellent. It’s filmed in 16:9 with mostly mediums and close-ups, and a few wides here and there. Includes curtain call.

Very nice recording.
Les Misérables - Mexico City, Mexico, 2004 *Full Stage Shot* | Limited Trades Federico di Lorenzo (Jean Valjean u/s), Luis René Aguirre (Javert), Pia Aún (Fantine), Rodrigo de la Rosa (Marius u/s), Natalia Sosa (Éponine), Claudia Cota (Cosette), Roberto Blandón (Thénardier), Laura Cortés (Mme. Thénardier), Saulo Vasconcelos (Enjolras u/s), Abel Fernando (Grantaire). Notes: The quality isn't something that anyone could expect from a video recorded in 2004. Full-stage shot from the house monitor with a soundboard recording, but there are some issues with the audio. Very blurry image, and so much spotlight washout, so you could barely distinguish the actors. But still it works for me, as this is the only full video from the Mexico City production that I have seen over here.

Notes: Blind shot, no zooms but the master is pretty close to thestage! The actors exit the stage right by the master so there's cool shots when some actors exit the stage as well as audio. Grainy but sharp video. First Preview! Keala Settle sprained her ankle at some point between the Robbery and One Day More, resulting in her not being present for One Day More, and her using a cane during Wedding Chorale/Beggars At The Feast.

The sets/props are minimal but inventive, and the music is very catchy. The cast is very fun to watch -- they do a great job of switching between characters and supporting each other. A very nice capture overall. There is a railing that can occasionally be seen at the bottom of the screen, but it never blocks more than the actors’ feet. The video occasionally wanders just a little, and there are a couple quick dropouts, but no major blackouts. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. The show is 60 minutes with no intermission. Includes playbill scans. A

Lion King, The - 16th November, 1997 - Broadway Cast: Heather Headley, Jason Raize, Kevin Cahoon, John Vickery, Samuel E. Wright. Notes: Filmed two nights after the show opened. Shot from the left box seat, making the angles extreme and blocking the upper stage right corner. The clarity of a video this old is quite impressive. Perfect sound. Some spotlight washout, but lots of close ups.

Lion King, The - April, 2010 - London | NFT Brown Lindiwe Mkhize, Shaun Escoffery, Natasha Jayetileke, Stephen Matthews, George Aspery, Allyson Addo, Gary Forbes, Mark Sangster. Notes from the master: The first hour of Act 1 with no blackouts and action well followed. The only obstruction there is a head of a child which was getting fidgety towards the end so at times it gets in the shot but other than that no real problems and I believe that if I had more life in my battery it would have turned out to be the best Lion King video out there because its beautifully captured in 16:9 wide-screen.
Lion King, The - July, 2013 - London / NFT Shaun Escoffrey (Mufasa), Jonathan Andrew Hume (Simba) George Asprey (Scar), Nteliseng Nkhela (Rafiki). Note: The best video out there! Acts it brilliantly sings it even better and is just adorable and awesome all around. The rest of the cast are also great, the standouts for me being Barbara Raunegger as Rosie (fun seeing her with Willemijn again!) and Annakathrin Naderer as Ali. The video is filmed from central stalls and features a completely unobstructed view of the stage. The action is followed all too well using a variety of shots as needed. The filming is steady and the colours great - all in all, as good a video as a bootleg can possibly get.

There are two blackouts in act one: two minutes during the first Wormwood scene, and three minutes during the first Library scene. During act two, Telly is blacked out while the house lights are on; video starts at Lavender’s entrance. There is one head center stage, but it’s worked around fairly well and rarely affects the action. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Notes: First two minutes is out of focus and missing a few seconds. It’s mostly well shot, but there’s some shakiness/wandering during applause and a small blackout after Seize the Day. Nice closeups and wide-shots for the choreography. The cast is just superb. Includes curtain call
Newsies - August 23, 2014 - Broadway | LIMITED TRADE Jack Kelly: Corey Cott, Katherine Plummer: Liana Hunt, Davey: Ben Fankhauser, Crutchie: Andy Richardson, Joseph Pulitzer: John Dossett, Medda Larkin: Capathia Jenkins Notes: This was the second to last performance on Broadway and the last performance open to the public. The energy from the cast and audience is palpable. There are entrance applauses for everyone, as well as for some of the greatest lines in the show, and a standing ovation for Seize the Day before the first act was even over. Definitely a must-see for any fan of the show. Act one has a few issues, but act two is much better. There is a one-minute blackout during Santa Fe (prologue). Carrying the Banner and the following scene in Newsie Square alternate between being blacked out or severely obstructed by a railing. There is a six-minute blackout from about halfway through The World Will Know through the scene at Jacobi’s Deli. Act two only has a two-minute blackout for the first scene, and a one-minute blackout during King of New York. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups.
